Various engine oil brands are available in the automotive-related retail shop and workshop. Some engine oil is available only in the authorized service centre, like the Castrol Edge or Magnatec Professional, which will be used by Ford, Volkswagen, BMW, Honda Europe and others at their authorized service centre. They are some automotive lovers who become a brand loyalist for specific engine oil brands like Castrol, Honda, Toyota, Petronas, and a lot more. They become the brand loyalist to these brands due to the quality and driving experience they gained when this engine oil was poured for their respected vehicle. Heretofore, Castrol had become the in-demand engine oil for automotive lovers; nonetheless, Liqui Moly, an engine oil brand from Germany, had gained some massive loyalists in recent years.

The distinctive feature of Liqui Moly is that they had the most additives sold in their product line, ranging from engine flush, transmission, radiator cleaner, fuel injector cleaner, friction reduction lubricant, air conditioner cleaner and a lot more. Recently, Liqui Moly added another engine oil in their production, which is distinctive among all the engine oil sold in automotive retail shops. They had named these engine oil Liqui Moly Molygen New Generation. It is fully synthetic engine oil with the standard viscosity of 5W-30, 5W-40, OW-20, and 0W-40. Except for the opener and the packaging colour, it can be colloquially called “Green Engine Oil” as the engine oil container and the oil is green in colour.

Generally, the engine oil will be golden in colour and will be blackish once it has been flushed out. Conversely, the Molygen is green in colour, for a good reason. The Molygen engine oil is green in colour as it had been added with an additive or chemical that will lessen the metal-to-metal friction in the engine and simultaneously provide a smooth ride and reducing the fuel consumption. Liqui Moly had advertised that these engine oil would be able to reduce the wear and tear together with the metal-to-metal friction by up to 30 per cent. They are some specifications and warning that Liqui Moly had advertised. These engine oil had been made distinctively for the Japanese and American cars. At the same time, the warning is that Liqui Moly does not recommend Molygen to be added with Ceratec as it can reduce the effect of the Molygen and, at some, create engine deposits. Nevertheless, some workshops will ignore these warnings and add the Molygen with Ceratec. It is advisable to adhere to the precaution advertised by Liqui Moly as they are the makers of Molygen and Ceratec.

Apart from the massive additive in their production line, Liqui Moly has gained great confidence among automobile lovers globally as they are making a product that works as advertised. Due to these, once I tried the Liqui Moly Molygen on my Honda HRV. In the earlier stages, I wanted to test the Liqui Moly brand as I received positive feedback from some friends and good reviews from the online forum. The workshop recommended Molygen as he claimed it is made for the Japanese car. Once I had given the nod, I was perplexed by the colour of the engine oil when it was poured into the i-Vtec engine as it deviated from the general engine oil colours.

After the workshop mechanic completed the SOP for the engine oil replacement, which is replacing the engine oil with the oil filter, I noticed the massive difference in my vehicle. There is less sound and vibration from the engine, and the car feels lighter as the friction reduction additive works in the engine. Because of these, I feel the car performance is smoother, and they are some extra pickup in the vehicle. To try it further, I tested to accelerate on Mex Highway, and the difference is massive, as the performance, the light feel RPM, and less vibration and noise from the engine even at high speed. I am satisfied with the overall performance of these engines’ oil.

I am also stunned by the performance from Molygen pertaining to the fuel consumption as I am getting more kilometres from my HRV as I can gain on average 450 to 480km on the general city drive, which includes crawling in the traffic jam while on the long journey I can get about 580 to 620km. Another instance which I noticed after I had pumped a full tank to my HRV, which will cost around RM93 to RM95, my fuel bar will start to reduce once my car had reached 90km, which is quite excellent, whereas before the fuel bar is started to minimize once I had gained 60km. Nonetheless, I observe that the effect of the Molygen will be diminished once the car has reached roughly 8,000km above. Once the car vehicle has gone this kilometre, the vibration noise from the engine will be heard, the performance will not be as smooth as before, and the fuel consumption capability will also diminish.

However, it is not something that needs to be anxious about as is it a general issue from the fully synthetic engine oil as the effect of the additive and the lubricant will be weakened before the vehicle reaches the advertised 10,000km. Overall, I have an excellent driving experience with the Molygen as it provides the capabilities advertised by  Liqui Moly. Although the colour of the engine oil does deviate from the standard engine oil colour, for automobile lovers who want to try it and have experienced it before, it will provide massive benefits and an excellent overall driving experience. Liqui Moly Molygen is genuinely an engine oil that works as advertised. Besides, it gives strong competition to other engine brands. Liqui Moly, as mentioned before, had gained some massive brand loyalists among automobile lovers in the short time it had been launched in our country. The Molygen ranges above Liqui Moly Special Tec and below Liqui Moly Top Tec engine oil; nevertheless, it provides a good performance like the premium signature engine oil from other engine oil makers.
